Known internationally as Digital Betacam and also as Digibeta, the format was released in 1993 as an evolution to Betacam SP format. Some of its main advantages were - superior image quality to the DVCam and DVCPro formats, the introduction of the SDI connection in some of its equipment, for digital signal capture and also the backward compatibility of some of its equipment with Betacam formats and Betacam SP. The images were recorded on a 10-bit YUV component video signal with 4: 2: 2 image compression at 720x576 (PAL) and 720x480 (NTSC) resolutions.
